Is Obama trying to buy support?  

President Barack Obama is unveiling $1.5 billion in housing help, a boost timed to his appearance in the city [of Las Vegas] with the worst foreclosure crisis in the nation.

This "spending" of money really bothers me.  It reminds me of the "bread and circuses" that bankrupted Rome and brought the great nation to its knees by politicians more concerned with their own self-interest than the interest of their country.
