Second Amendment:  A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Fourth Amendment:  The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

How do those jibe with federal agents in plain clothes going to houses asking people about their guns?  On one hand, you don't want bad guys having guns (although it's not like you can stop them- they're bad!).  On the other hand, there has to be a line that cannot be crossed.  Is it okay for whatever reason for agents of the federal government to be inquiring about people's guns?  I'm not sure about this.  I tend to think that government has no business asking people about guns they have legally purchased- end of story.  This is not a good road to travel down.  The article makes it sound like they are following up on very suspicious situations only.  Is that really all they are doing?  Are they confiscating weapons?  Are they asking to see weapons?  I'm putting on my conspiracy theorist hat for the following, but is it possible that someone higher up is hoping for a situation in which one of these individuals for whatever reason freaks out and fires upon the agents?  That would be a perfect opportunity for more restriction of freedom because "guns are dangerous" and "we have to protect the children."  All of us with brains know that the second amendment is there to protect us-- the people, from an out of control government.  Are they going to cut us off at the pass by taking them or greatly restricting access to them?  I do not like the times we are living in.

For those of you in Tulsa, there is an EXCELLENT talk show on 1170KFAQ on Sunday afternoons.  It's called GunTalk with Tom Gresham.  It's a lot of people calling up and asking questions about guns, and bragging about their cool guns, but also they talk 2nd Amendment.  I'm not really into guns and shooting, but even I enjoy listening, especially when it turns to politics.  Tom Gresham is a vast wealth of information.  Check it out.

The House passed a sweeping energy and global warming cap and trade bill Friday. This bill, titled “America’s Clean Energy and Security Act,” or better known as Waxman-Markey, is the Democrats’ answer to the worst recession in decades: a national energy tax -- a tax designed to impose economic pain through higher energy prices and lost jobs. Or, as a recent Washington Post editorial put it, the bill “contains regulations on everything from light bulb standards to the specs on hot tubs, and it will reshape America’s economy in dozens of ways that many don’t realize”…

Our own Ms. Bobbie making some noise in Poteau

Bobbie McAuliffe

Ms. Bobbie is one of the regular posters on the forum here at GetRightOK.  She is a great writer, and she writes some of the best letters to the editor everFrom the Poteau Daily News:

Bobbie McAuliffe is not one to sit back and watch the world go by without trying to make a difference. This weekend as she watch the events unfold in Iran she challenged herself to begin a mission and try to make a difference, even a small one.  McAuliffe will be on the lawn of the LeFlore County Courthouse in front of the WWII Memorial protesting the ever-growing national debt.

“Events taking place in Iran have prompted me to begin a mission to wake up my fellow citizens to what I believe we are not very far from here in the United States," said McAuliffe.  “I am very concerned about the direction our country is headed and I don't like it.  We have been on the wrong road for decades.  It did not just happen in January of this year.”

She organized a well attended tea party in Poteau on April 15, and she has planned another for this Saturday, June 27.

From her press release:

Events taking place in Iran have prompted me to begin a mission to wake up my fellow citizens to what I believe we are not very far from here in the United States.

I am very concerned about the direction our country is headed and I don’t like it. We have been on the wrong road for decades. It did not just happen in January of this year.

We are over our heads in debt to our economic and political enemies and our leaders seem hell bent on pushing us all the way over the cliff by throwing more money at a problem they created.

The stimulus packages over the last year have doubled our national debt.

We did not NEED those $300 stimulus checks last summer.

Wall Street and the automakers made their own bed. They should have been allowed to crash and burn, but they made poor business decisions and were rewarded for it with no accountability.

We did not NEED those stimulus checks last month. It is as if Congress thought they could put a little bit of money in our pocket so we would run to the mall and not pay any attention to what else they were doing while our back was turned.

The current administration’s budget for FY-2010 is three times that of any previous administration and that is outrageous.

I do not believe the American Dream is to bankrupt yet unborn future generations but that is what is happening.

The national debt clock this week says each of us owes well over $36 thousand dollars and it is increasing by about $12 every day. How are we ever going to pay it off? Taxes collected do not even cover the interest on that debt.

I counted 311 names on the LeFlore County fallen heroes’ monument in front of the courthouse. All of my buddies are WWII, Korea and Vietnam veterans; my daughter is a veteran. I am doing this for them, and for my grandchildren.

The fallen did not die and the veterans did not serve so we could become a socialist nanny state, or worse. If I do not at least try to wake up my fellow citizens, my grandchildren will never know the America I grew up in.

Hooray for you, Ms. Bobbie.  You are making a difference out there.

Sen. Thune's Gov't Exit Strategy
Congress

From Human Events (ht: conservativehq.com), Sen. John Thune of South Dakota looks to force government to get it's grubby hands out of the private sector.
“You substitute political judgment, political decision making for what should be good business decisions,” Thune said. “You’re going to have every politician saying, ‘Don’t close the plant in my district, or don’t close this dealership or that dealership.’”
My gosh.  If business ran like government, we would have no new innovations.  People would still be dying of dysentery and colds.  We would all be riding in barouches Jane Austen style.  That is, of course, if we could afford a barouche.  The only thing government does well is increase in size.

Sen. Grassley doing what all honest Senators should be doing

Sen. Charles Grassley (R) of Iowa is looking into the firings of three Inspector Generals.  If it has not been clear before, it should be clear now.  Obama does not care about following the rule of law.  People will say, "well, he just can't do these things."  But he does them anyway.  Congress has paved the way for ignoring the Constitution, and he is just following in their footsteps. So much for this "transparency" Obama touted.  If you investigate his administration, you will be fired.  People, this is tyranny.  How do we stop it?

35% of Americans are Conservative, 24% are Liberal
National Party
Written by Jason
Monday, 18 May 2009 09:22

In an article by the Wall Street Journal, the Republican Party is struggling to survive in membership.

In the Journal/NBC News survey, just 31% of those polled called themselves Republicans. That's down from 37% eight years ago. More important, a larger share of Americans now call themselves Democrats than Republicans in every region of the country, including the South, which the GOP likes to think of as its remaining bastion. Democrats also outnumber Republicans in every age group. In sum, the view of the Republican Party that emerges is the very picture of a minority party.

The real kicker is the number of those who identify themselves as either conservative or liberal.

At the same time, there are many potential Republicans out there. Of those surveyed, 35% called themselves conservatives -- as opposed to 24% who called themselves liberals -- and four in 10 of those self-identified conservatives identified themselves as something other than a Republican.

This comes on the heals of an article reviewing the GOP's effort (or lack thereof) with Latino voters.
